Chuck Lyman (NHCWS/LSE)
Senior Field Scientist /Biologist/Site Evaluator
Charles Lyman is a lifelong New England resident who has lived in every New England state except Vermont—a fact he attributes to his affinity for estuarine and marine environments. Originally from Hartford, Connecticut, Charles attended high school in Westerly, Rhode Island, and earned degrees from two Rhode Island institutions. He first completed an associate degree in Design and Drafting from the New England Institute of Technology, after which he worked for several years as a designer-drafter at a small engineering firm. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Soil and Water Resources from the University of Rhode Island, which launched his career in environmental consulting.
Over the past 31 years, Charles has worked primarily with one firm (through several ownership transitions), focusing on the ecological aspects of contaminated sites—including biota and multi-media sampling, as well as habitat characterization. Early in his consulting career, he specialized in ecological risk assessment, which gave him exposure to a wide range of projects, environmental conditions, and sampling media. In addition to his background in ecological risk assessment, Charles has extensive experience as a wetland scientist, conducting wetland delineations, habitat characterizations, restoration projects, and wetland permitting.
Charles joined Flycatcher in April 2024 to support environmental inspections for a highly sensitive power line project in central and western Maine. He applied his expertise in protected natural resources, erosion and sediment control, and construction oversight to help ensure compliance with state and federal wetland permits—successfully guiding work to completion with no significant issues.
Outside of work, Charles enjoys building and sailing/paddling boats, riding motorcycles, fishing, camping, and generally spending time in the great outdoors.
